Michael Otterman, author of American Torture, explains the myths about torture—even in the TV series 24. Gone Baby Gone star, Amy Madigan, compares acting to her days touring as a musician-vocalist with a rock band.
Michael Otterman
Michael Otterman is an award-winning freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker who's covered crime and culture for a variety of publications. The New York native studied journalism at the University of Boston and earned his masters at the University of Sydney's Centre for Peace & Conflict Studies. During that time, Otterman wrote a thesis on Abu Ghraib, which became his first book, the critically acclaimed American Torture—a look at how torture became standard practice in today's 'War on Terror.'
Amy Madigan
Over the past 20 years, Amy Madigan has appeared in numerous features, TV movies and series. Her credits include the films Twice in a Lifetime, for which she earned an Oscar nod, and Gone Baby Gone and the telefilms Having Our Say and Roe vs. Wade. Before pursuing an acting career, Madigan studied piano at the Chicago Conservatory, earned a degree in philosophy and toured as a musician-vocalist with a rock band. A political activist, Madigan has served on NARAL Pro-Choice America's national board.
