Garry Shandling spent several years as a sitcom writer and doing stand-up before starring in his own TV series, It's Garry Shandling's Show, on Fox. He went on to create the heavily autobiographical The Larry Sanders Show—a cutting-edge parody that aired on HBO. Shandling studied creative writing as a grad student and made his stand-up debut at L.A.'s Comedy Store. He got his big break on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and served as the show's guest host on several occasions. He's also hosted the Grammy and Emmy Award shows.
