Missouri Rep. Ike Skelton, House Armed Services Committee chair, discusses his opposition to the plan to extend military tours of duty in Iraq. Actor Jon Voight talks about overcoming challenges and learning from them.
Rep. Ike Skelton
Rep. Isaac (Ike) Skelton has represented Missouri in Congress since '77. As chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, he has said his main priority is oversight and that military readiness is his top concern. Skelton comes from a military family and has two sons on active duty. He previously served as a prosecuting attorney, assistant attorney general and six years in the state senate. He is also vice chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation.
Jon Voight
Still remembered for his role in the classic Midnight Cowboy—which launched his film career—Jon Voight has established himself as a leading man and versatile character actor. An Oscar winner for Coming Home, his credits also include the features Ali, Tomb Raider and September Dawn and the acclaimed miniseries Uprising, for which he won an Emmy nod. He made his directorial debut with the award-winning cable movie, The Tin Soldier. Voight also devotes time to various causes, including Vietnam vets.
