Singer-songwriter tells Tavis why she is against formulaic music (1:44)
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Joss Stone challenges old notions of race and music. The 19-year-old UK native - who regularly performs barefoot -has a voice that sounds like the '60s or '70s soul artists. Inspired to become a singer by the first album she bought, "Aretha Franklin's Greatest Hits," she left home at 16. Landing in New York, she signed with S-Curve Records, which released "The Soul Sessions," a redo of old-school R & B tunes. Now on the Virgin label, her new CD is "Introducing Joss Stone."
