Acclaimed South African writer Yvette Christiansë explains why she chose fiction as the genre of her book about slavery. Actor Danny Huston discusses lessons learned about the film business from his legendary dad.
Yvette Christiansë
Poet and fiction writer Yvette Christiansë was born in South Africa under apartheid and immigrated with her parents to Australia at age 18. Her work has been published internationally, and her poetry collection, Castaway, was a finalist for the '01 PEN International Poetry Prize. Her acclaimed first novel, Unconfessed, is based on the life of a slave woman in the Cape Colony. Christiansë received her Ph.D. from the University of Sydney and teaches in the English department at Fordham University, NY.
Danny Huston
Danny Huston grew up on film sets watching his father, Oscar-winning director John Huston. Born in Rome and raised in Ireland and London, he began making movies with a Super-8 camera at age 7 and pursued a varied creative career before following in his dad's footsteps. He helmed several TV and film projects until '95, when he decided to move in front of the camera in a small role in Leaving Las Vegas. He's since appeared in over 20 films, including The Aviator, The Constant Gardener and The Number 23.
