Congresswoman-elect Gwen Moore, Wisconsin's first African American representative, says her life is a testament to "never giving up." VOY Group CEO Fernando Espuelas never felt limited by circumstances of the moment.
Congresswoman-elect Gwen Moore
Gwen Moore made history on Election Day by becoming the first African American voted to Congress from Wisconsin. Previously, Moore served 12 years in the State Senate and two consecutive terms in the Assembly. As a young single mother, she briefly went on welfare in order to complete her college education. A Wisconsin native, Moore spearheaded economic and community development projects as a VISTA volunteer and neighborhood activist before deciding to throw her hat into the political ring.
Fernando Espuelas
Fernando Espuelas has been called 'the Bill Gates of Latin America." The Uruguayan-born entrepreneur came to the U.S. at age 9. By age 33, he had created a pioneering company that introduced the Internet to Latin America. Espuelas lost everything in the dot-com bust, but successfully rebounded as the founder and CEO of VOY Group, a Latino-themed, English-language entertainment conglomerate. He is also the author of Life in Action, which is part biography, self-help and inspirational exercise.
